Ted Anderson - Inductee: The Kansas Music Hall Of Fame

about

TED ANDERSON
"Biography"

Starting out in the coffeehouses and folk clubs of the Midwest, Ted began writing songs after moving to Los Angeles in the mid 1960's. The move inspired Ted to begin dedicating himself to writing songs.

While in the New Society, chosen to replace the departing Michael Martin Murphy, Ted's songs began to draw attention and three of his songs were recorded by the New Society on the RCA label. At about this time, Maffitt and Davies, friends from the coffee houses, recorded City Sidewalks, included on their Capitol Records album, The Rise And Fall Of Honesty.

Besides Ledbetter's club, home base to The New Society, Ted played in area clubs including The Ice House in Pasadena, and The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, among others. A highlight of his time with The New Society, was the group appearing on The Miss Universe pageant, televised nationally from Miami Beach.

During this time, his friends, Brewer and Shipley, decided to move back to Kansas City where a college booking circuit was growing out of the Vanguard coffee house. Brewer and Shipley were managed by Stan Plesser, founder of Good Karma Productions, who soon afterwards offered management and booking to Ted. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and Chet Nichols came on board, and Ted began touring as an opening act with "the Daredevils".

Ted's song, "Seems Like a Long Time", was recorded by Brewer and Shipley for their album, "Tarkio Road", which featured the hit, "One Toke Over The Line".

Not long after that, Rod Stewart recorded, "Seems Like a Long Time" on the album, "Every Picture Tells A Story", Rod's breakout album featuring the hit Maggie May.

Several years later, Rickie Lee Jones included her version on the, "The Devil You Know" album.

Moving to a farm house near Edwardsville, KS, Ted immersed in songwriting and let the influence of country living took over. This was an important decision as it removed Ted from the distractions of the city and as allowed his music to come from a more reflective place.

Ted sees this as influencing his writing as the coffee house era faded, and a maturing outlook took its place, reflecting in his songs. The years living in Kansas saw Ted's songwriting flourish, many of the songs in his active repertoire today.

Today, Ted lives and works in Nashville, continuing to write songs, with the joy and satisfaction that only a lifetime devoted to music and songwriting can bring. He finds fulfillment in the many songs written, knowing that his dedication has been rewarded - and thankful for the appreciation and encouragement of friends.
